Darrian Scott Interview

Posted on January 10, 2014 at 4:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Earlier today I was able to touch base with 2015 recruit Darrian Scott out of Bowling Green who gave an update on his recruitment. Darrian will be at UK for one of the camps over the summer so the UK coaching staff will get a good look at this young man. Darrian is a Defensive End who stands 6' and weighs 220 and from watching film on him you can see he is a relentless competitor.

Me: Have you heard from any of  the UK coaches yet?

Darrian: Nope, heard from my bro Emmit Smith who is a 2015 UK recruit who said Stoops wants me to come to a camp up there to check me out

Me: Do you have any new offers?

Darrian: I have heard from Buffalo State and talked to Arkansas State's head coach. It's the dead period so right now things are slow

Me: What did it mean to you to be able to win the State championship this year?

Darrian: Means a whole lot, my goal before the season started  was to win a state championship for my mom and team

Me: I saw a few weeks ago a tweet from you saying you wanted to go to college out of state, have you changed your plans or is that still the plan?

Darrian: They have, I will go anywhere that offers me a scholarship

Me: What is the biggest attraction about UK for you?

Darrian: The fans and the coaches

If Darrian can continue his strong play there is no doubt the offers will start to come in for this young man, and camp this summer could be a big start for him. If you have not seen this guy's Junior highlight film you can check it out at http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2753350/highlights/113042376

Blake Bone Interview

Posted on January 6, 2014 at 12:35 AM Comments comments (0)

For the second consecutive day I was able to get an interview with a further football Cat, this time with one Blake Bone. I reached out to Blake last night about an interview and he was kind enough to give me a little of his time today. Blake is a 6'5" WR out of Woodruff, South Carolina and chose the Cats over teams like Clemson, USC, Louisville, Tennessee, and others.

Me: What ultimately led to you choosing the University of Kentucky? I know you had plenty of offers including big programs from your home state in USC and Clemson

Blake: The future at UK looks very bright, and my future teammates and myself are very close. The coaches were and are very down to earth, and I could tell the things they were telling me wasn't just talk. I love the Air Raid and can see myself thrive in that system

Me: Who was your primary recruiter from UK?

Blake: Tommy Mainord was my recruiter, he is the Wide Receivers coach at UK and has been with the Air Raid system before

Me: This recruiting class is shaping up to be the best in UK history, what has led to the recruiting surge coming off a 2-10 season?

Blake: The ambition of the coaches, they are building something special and are bringing in the best players possible. The coaches are bringing the team together and the new players together

Me: What do you see yourself doing as a freshman at UK, or better put what are your goals for yourself next year?

Blake: As a freshman want to go in and just earn a roll somewhere, catch the balls that are thrown my way and help this team finish at least at .500 next season. Nothing to outrageous

Me: Where do you see UK and this recruiting class being after 4 years? In other words what will be this recruiting class legacy at UK?

Blake: Going to the top man, real good feeling about this coaching staff and class. We are going to be an impact in the SEC, and hopefully contend for SEC championships

Me: Last but not least, I always ask everyone I interview if they have a message to pass along to the Big Blue Nation

Blake: UK has got a receiver coming in like they have never seen before, I am gonna do things at UK that has never been done before

Much like Stanley and others in this class, Blake seems very confident and not in a arrogant way. He is has the confidence it takes to succeed at the next level and I for one can not wait to see what this young man can accomplish during his time in a UK uniform. Big Blue Nation needs to enjoy and embarrass this recruiting class because they can be the turning point with this program.

Stanley

Posted on January 4, 2014 at 6:50 PM Comments comments (0)

I was fortunate enough to get a little of Stanley Williams time today for an interview and he shared some information about his recruitment. Stanley is a very highly rated running back out of Georgia who chose the Wildcats over heavy hitters such as Georgia and Clemson. So without further delay, here is how the interview went.

Me: With Kentucky coming off a 2-10 record this year why has recruiting been so good?
Boom: All of us recruits just believe

Me: What was the deciding factor in choosing the Cats over top programs like Clemson and others?
Boom: Just the feeling you get when you visit Kentucky

Me: What led you to choose the number 18 Jersey at UK? Did Cobb every respond to your tweet about wearing the number?
Boom: I am not sure if Cobb responded but I just wanted to rejuvenate the Big Blue Nation and give them a reason to be happy about football

Me: Which Coach or coaches recruited you the hardest and why does this recruiting class seem so close like a brotherhood?
Boom: It was the coaching staff as a whole really and that's why I wanted to be a part of it. We know what we wanna do and that's why we are so close

Me: What do you see yourself doing next year as a Freshman at UK?
Boom: I don't know yet, I'm just ready to come in and contribute. We will see what happens when the time comes

Like I always do I ask Stanley if he had a message for the Big Blue Nation, and he sure did! Stanley's own words, "Watch out for Boom, they are about to see something they have never seen before from Boom Williams"

As a Wildcat fan you have to love his confidence and after winning the overall MVP award of the Offense-Defense bowl you can tell that he has the talent to back it up. While UK is loaded at the running back position next year I have a hard time seeing Boom not being a key contributor at the position. Kentucky football is on the rise and that is in part to guys like Boom and the coaching staff for getting them here.

George Brown Interview

Posted on November 27, 2013 at 2:15 PM Comments comments (0)

I was lucky enough to get an interview with one of Kentucky biggest football targets for the 2015 class in George Brown Jr out of Cincinnati Ohio. Brown opened up some about his recruitment and about how he feels about UK, and I will bring it to you word for word.

Me: Do you have a top 5 at this point or are you still wide open?

Brown: No, I am still wide open right now

Me: Have you made any decisions on where you will go for your official visits?

Brown: No not yet, still have time to decide on it

Me: How big is your interest in UK?

Brown: I like UK and it helps that I know most of their commits

Me: Which fan base has shown you the most love on Twitter?

Brown: Between Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee

Me: What stands out most to you about UK?

Brown: Close to home and already know most of the 2014 commits

Me: Does UK 's record hurt their chances this year?

Brown: No, just like Auburn did bad last year and now are 9-2. It's the SEC so every game is gonna be tough.

With Kentucky losing ZaDarius Smith and Alvin Bud Dupree after next season Brown could be one of the very top recruits the Cats are going after in the 2015 class. Regardless if the Cats were losing Smith and Dupree, Brown would be a huge pick up and his scholarship offers from a majority of the top programs in the country shows it.

Everyone of the BBN should show Brown love and follow him on Twitter @MADDAWG_G on Twitter.

Kentucky vs Tennessee

Posted on November 27, 2013 at 2:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Kentucky takes on arch-rival Tennessee this Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium, As our Cat's take the field one last time for the 2013 season. I am confident Kentucky will come out with the win. I would like to see our guys play hard this final game, and play for the seniors. We should hold nothing back this game. Go all out and absolutely demolish Tennessee. I think both of the programs are evenly matched and they're both in rebuilding mode.

This upcoming Saturday I encourage the Big Blue Nation to come out to Commonwealth Stadium and fill it to the capacity to show the support and also show that we still believe in the direction the program is heading as a whole. BBN fan's shouldn't get discouraged about a 2-9 season. We've showed constant improvement in almost every game but a couple of games we showed that we have a long ways to go.

It can only get better from here. Obviously you've seen how great recruiting has been for the 2014 season. It's going to be better too. I would like to share that the 2015 recruting class will be just as good, if not even better. The whole recruiting situation is going really well. It's even better with highly routed recruits seeing the renovation designs for Commonwealth Stadium in 2015.

My Prediction vs Tennessee: Kentucky: 24. Tennessee: 17.

The Future is Bright! #UKFootball

Posted on November 10, 2013 at 2:10 AM Comments comments (0)

The future is bright for Kentucky Football, It is a 2-7 year but with the recruiting job that Mark Stoops and his staff are doing, It can only get better from here. With a Top 25 recruiting class in 2014 led by Drew Barker Denzel Ware, and Thaddeus Snodgrass, all which whom are ESPNTop300 recruits and 4 star players.

As you all know Kentucky needs all the help that they can get at any position, As any UK fan would know that the 3 years that Joker Phillips spent at UK as "Head Coach" he didn't spend it wisely. He recruited nothing but 3 star players, and he even didn't recruit 4 star players out of the state of Kentucky, for instant, Drew Barker.I really think that's why Kentucky is struggling right now in the SEC.

Kentucky doesn't have the talent/skilled players that they need to have to be able to compete in the SEC,but not for long. I think If Coach Stoops and his staff can bring in 2 or 3 more Top Recruiting Classes in, Kentucky will be back in the Top 6 of the SEC again. I fully believe in Mark Stoops' plan, here at Kentucky.

I think the Big Blue Nation should also believe in Coach Mark Stoops and his staff and also the current players, The future of the program has just begun and it's headed in the right direction. There's so much positive things going on for the #UKFootball program at the moment also. Recruits are starting to believe in stoops scheme and they're wanting to take their talents to Lexington. The 2014 Recruiting Class is only going to get better. The 2015 class is going to be even better than the 2014 class also.

All I'm saying #BBN don't give up on this football team and Coach Stoops. The future is bright and everyone should know that

Rich Brooks Legacy: UK Edition

Posted on October 16, 2013 at 3:35 AM Comments comments (0)

I am dedicating this new post to Former UK Football Coach Rich Brooks, The 7 years that he had been at UK he tried his best to turn this program around, got off to a rough start in the years through 2003-2005 with only a 9-25 record but then it started to look up the next 3 years he led the Wildcats to 3 straight Bowl Games (3 Music City Bowls and 1 Liberty bowl). A postive for Coach Brooks was he had a postive record in his bowl games at Kentucky with a 3-1 record, the only loss in the post-season was on December 27, 2009 against Clemson with a 21-13 final score. Coach Brooks would finish his career at UK with a 39-47 (16-39 in SEC). We may have had our ups and downs during his time at UK but he did make us competitve with the best athletes in the world. We also had some of the best upsets in College Football history under Brooks, In 2007 we beat #1 LSU by a score of 43-37 in the 3rd overtime. Another key mark win that 2007 season was against our arch rival #9 Louisville (Stevie Got Loose) by a score of 40-34. I think everyone in the Big Blue Nation has a soft spot for Coach Brooks, we may have not been the best team always but we stood our ground and fought like hell. I see the same in our current Head Coach in Mark Stoops.

Who will win POTY?

Posted on October 16, 2013 at 12:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Who will win "Player of the Year" this upcoming 2013-14 College Basketball season? Here are some possible winners

  • Jabari Parker - Duke
  • Doug McDermott - Creighton
  • Julius Randle - Kentucky
  • Andrew Wiggins - Kansas
  • Marcus Smart - Oklahoma State
  • Aaron Harrison/Andrew Harrison - Kentucky
  • Aaron Gordon - Arizona
  • Mitch McGary - Michigan
  • Jordan McRae - Tennessee
Each of these players from their respected teams have the potential to be named "Player of the Year". Many believe who will win the award will be Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker. One guy they've left out is Kentucky PF Julius Randle, with his athleticism, power inside and shooting abilities, I think Randle will be the favorite choice by the end of the College Basketball season.
